DICE British Council Commission

DICE British Council

In February 2021 I won a British Council commission along with eleven other artists from around the world, to illustrate an academic paper about cultural and creative economics: ‘The British Council and the DICE team are delighted to be working with twelve artists to explore together Prof. JP Singh’s forthcoming publication, The Cultural Relations of Negotiating Development: Developing Inclusive and Creative Economies at the British Council. The exploration will result in eleven artistic interpretations of Professor JP Singh’s paper, to be published as part of the full study in April / May 2021.’

We were to read- and artistically respond to- this text. I found myself visually drawn to two paragraphs in particular, which are key to informing my final piece.

‘The global voice is joined in the choir with bottom-up and lateral voices. Aiding these global voices are flows of ideas, peoples and technologies that produce sites of interaction.”

“Dice takes an ecosystem approach to nurturing economic inclusion, with a focus on women and girls, young people, disabled people and other often excluded groups. The terms holistic and ecology indicate that the DICE architecture and impact may be greater than the sum of its parts.”
